The Claim:
The Spicy Gourmet organic fair trade spices website claims that they’re giving away free spice samples. However, nothing has been received since we first saw this freebie several years ago. And, now the site seems to either be infected with malware or is set up to try to infect your phone, tablet or computer. Either way, whether intentional or hacked, it’s dangerous.
Findings (What makes it fake?)
- Spam popup – when you visit the site from a mobile phone an unrelated spammy offer pops up and wants you to fill it out. The scammers get PAID when you do! They’re tricking you into making them money.
- No product info
- No company info or address is a vacant lot, etc.
- Site is a clone (duplicate) of this legitimate business’s site: Santa Barbara Spice Company. The real company doesn’t sell spices online, only in their physical store.
- Here you can see a Groupon from the real Santa Barbara Spice Company that has a product bundle called “The Spicy Gourmet”. However, the real business doesn’t link to, own, operate, or associate with the fake cloned site. In other words, the fake site is illegally copying the real business without their permission in order to scam you!
- Nothing has been received since this was first shared, several years ago.
Conclusion:
This is not a legit offer; it is spam. STEER CLEAR! To stay safe we highly recommend that you read our Big List of Fakes and learn how to protect yourself on every single freebie you sign up for. Read also: Getting Started with Gimmie.
