After all, we are the home of the Gimmie’s Big List of Fake Freebies to Avoid. We research all samples before we share to keep you safe online. You may not realize it, but scammers and spammers are notorious for posting fake offers. There are lots of reasons why people post fake freebies, but usually it is about money. They build up a website or Facebook fanpage and then sell it for profit. Or, they take your info submitted in their alleged freebie form, and sell it to Spammers.
The Claim:
Discover our wonderful range of Fruit & Herbal Infusions with a FREE box. Enter your details …to print your coupon, then redeem it at your nearest Sainsbury’s, Waitrose or Morrisons store. Power of nature, might of flavour.
Sadly TWO people messaged me on Facebook to tell me about this “hot new freebie.” I don’t know if they’re part of the scam ring or they are victims themselves. One of them, “David”, insisted that they got theirs and sent a picture of what appears to be them holding their sample box. And the other, “Tara,” said her friend was affiliated with the company and asked her to promote the free sample offer.
Findings (What makes it fake?)
- This company, Taylors of Harrogate is legitimate, but the website the offer is on is not the same site. It is on a fake site that was cloned to look like the real one.
- The “Where to Buy” link on sample site goes to real legitimate company’s site. So, I clicked the Facebook page from the legit site and messaged the legit company. They confirmed this is a fake offer!
Conclusion:
This is not a legit offer, it is spam.
Please make no mistake. The legit company is a real company who is being victimized by scammers just like those of us who signed up for this fake offer.
