After all, we are the home of the Gimmie’s Big List of Fake Freebies to Avoid. We research all samples before we share to keep you safe online. You may not realize it, but scammers and spammers are notorious for posting fake offers. There are lots of reasons why people post fake freebies, but usually it is about money. They build up a website or Facebook fanpage and then sell it for profit. Or, they take your info submitted in their alleged freebie form, and sell it to Spammers. Some even deposit malicious code when you visit the website!
Findings:
- 92 likes on their Facebook page, they just started this scam!
- This appears to be a legitimate business – a tiny local swimming pool company in Florida and New Jersey, but we believe they do not operate the Facebook page offering alleged free swim rings
- Their website doesn’t link to FB page
- Web site copyright is from 2009, likely hasn’t been updated in a long time
- Why would such a small, local business give anyone & everyone a free kids swim ring? Their customers would need to be local to them (FL & NJ) to service their swimming pools. It doesn’t make sense.
- The freebie kids swimming ring has the logo terribly Photoshopped onto it
- Toll-free number is disconnected (866) 410-7587
- Local Florida number (recording) 727-573-8503
- Local New Jersey number (recording) 908-879-8058
Recording from both phone numbers: as of February 1st, all Florida [New Jersey] operations will be suspended. thank you for 12 yrs of business. In the recording they provide a number to call for current open orders. That number just rings and nobody answers. - Address is an apartment 2400 Feather Sound Dr Apt 831, Clearwater, Florida 33762
- This was posted on a big freebie forum by someone who stole this guy’s picture, and then a bunch of new people joined the forum to mark the post “green” like they approved – very suspicious!
Conclusion:
We’ll keep trying to contact the real business, and as we’ve done in the past we’ll help them contact Facebook to hopefully get this fake page taken down asap
